ASSISTANCE LEAGUE® OF CAPISTRANO VALLEY CELEBRATES 40+ YEARS OF SUPPORTING CHILDREN IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
San Clemente, CA - Assistance League of Capistrano Valley (ALCV) celebrates their 40th anniversary supporting children and families in our local community. Since the charter’s founding in 1980, ALCV has returned $5.3 million back to the community. As an all-volunteer nonprofit organization our mission is to transform the lives of children through innovative philanthropic community programs.
“The volunteers at the Assistance League of Capistrano Valley have contributed to the future of young people from our city for over 40 years,” said Kathleen Ward, Mayor of San Clemente. “It is an honor to congratulate ALCV on their anniversary. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to giving children greater opportunities.”
“Last year ALCV members gave over 13,173 volunteer hours to help children and families in our community despite our challenges with the pandemic,” said Joyce Helland, President of ALCV. “Our volunteer-run Bargain Box thrift store here in San Clemente allows us to pass along proceeds directly back into our local community supporting children in need."
In 2020, ALCV returned $101,000 back into the community through programs such as Operation School Bell which clothed over 700 children with back-to-school clothing, shoes and school supplies in the Capistrano Unified School District totaling $46,000. Chapters for Children, another program, helped clothe over 600 Camp Pendleton Marine children. Our Links to Learning program awarded 64 grants to13 middle schools in the Capistrano Unified School District providing $14,500 to help children’s learning. We also provided scholarships through the I.N.S.P.I.R.E. program awarding$16,000 in scholarships to single parents attending Saddleback College returning to earn their degrees as well as Scholarships for Military Families which provided $10,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from military families to be used for college or trade school.
Assistance League of Capistrano Valley is a chapter of Assistance League®, a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization. Our chapter focuses on meeting the needs of children from the Capistrano Unified School District and for military families at Camp Pendleton. With over 200 volunteers we use proceeds raised from our Bargain Box thrift store in San Clemente to fund our 6 philanthropies focusing on scholarships, literacy and essential needs within our community.
